Health insurance for all
... Why universal coverage rather than guaranteed access to care?
Can you imagine a system where you’d never go without health insurance? It would not matter what job you had.
Large or small business, self-employed, seasonal or part-time, freshly hired or just laid off, not only you
but your spouse and all your children would always be covered. If you felt sick or injured yourself,
you would be able to go to the hospital or see a doctor without wondering how you could ever pay those
medical bills. You would no longer ignore your pain, skimp on treatment and put your health at risk,
because of access or financial concerns.
Relying on provider charity or bureaucratic grants to fund uncompensated care after the fact is an inefficient
and arbitrary process. Building government-run facilities to take care of the poor is not the answer either. Even
long-established institutions like the VA or Canadian and British hospitals end up underfunded, overloaded,
unable to provide timely quality care to their patients. With universal health insurance, everyone can benefit
from our world-class private healthcare providers.
All New Mexicans deserve health insurance 100% of the time.
Getting medical coverage for everyone is the #1 goal of this proposal.
